A New Hampshire woman’s pharmaceutical liability lawsuit against the drug manufacturer Mutual Pharmaceutical could be on its way to the United States Supreme Court. Two years ago, the woman was awarded $21.6 million by a federal jury, but the pharmaceutical company claims the verdict is excessive.

Last week, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit upheld the verdict. Legal experts expect the U.S. Supreme Court to look at the case as it poses additional questions to past court decisions.

While taking anti-inflammatory medication for shoulder pain, the victim suffered severe burns on 65 percent of her body and permanent blindness. She suffered burns to her esophagus, vagina, eyes, lungs, face, and body.

A Tri-Cities doctor was found guilty by a Washington County grand jury this week of driving under the influence. He pleaded not guilty despite failing two field sobriety tests the night of his arrest in November 2010.

A Tennessee Highway Patrol trooper testified that the doctor told him that he or a co-worker may need his help someday and implied that he would not render aid to them. The arresting officer also testified that the drunk driver appeared incredulous that he was being arrested.

The doctor has been ordered to pay a $350 fine, forfeit his license, and will be on unsupervised probation for one year.

The friends were out of the country for spring break when the crash occurred.

So far there is no word on what caused the accident. Officials at Father Ryan High School, where the deceased student attended high school, believe the young man and his friend were on a cruise and rented the moped after the ship docked in Cancun.

The extent of the injuries the other UT student suffered have not been released. Father Ryan High School cancelled class on Tuesday and held a mass earlier this morning.

A 57 year-old man is in critical condition at Erlanger Medical Center after he was hit by a car while he was riding his motorcycle last week in Chattanooga.

The motorcyclist was struck by a 24 year-old woman who had failed to slow down fast enough to stopping traffic on Highway 58. The driver hit a vehicle in the center lane that was waiting to turn left and continued into the southbound lanes.

As she entered the southbound lanes, she crossed in front of the motorcyclist, causing him serious injuries. So far no charges have been filed as the investigation is ongoing and toxicology tests are pending.
