A number of factors contribute to the risk of collision, including vehicle design, speed of operation, road design, road environment, and driver skill, impairment due to alcohol or drugs, and behavior, notably speeding and street racing. Worldwide, motor vehicle collisions lead to death and disability as well as financial costs to both society and the individuals involved.

Finally, the trial will begin and, for a typical personal injury case, last several days. At trial, the judge or jury will determine if the defendant is liable and, if so, how much the defendant is required to pay out in damages. After trial, either party can initiate an appeals process that can last from several months to several years. After the appeals process has been exhausted, a losing defendant will be required to pay the damages established at trial or on appeal.
While there are sometimes a few lucky people who walk away from a car accident without injury, it’s not common. For those who aren’t so lucky, quality medical care is important. Because of the high impact nature of many car accidents, there are a wide range of injuries that you may experience during a collision, and only some of the injuries are immediately obvious. Unfortunately, other types of injuries can take days or weeks to manifest. Some of the most common injuries people experience as the result of a car accident that may not be obvious include:
Informal Settlement - In reality, most disputes over fault for an accident or injury are resolved through informal early settlement, usually among those personally involved in the dispute, their insurers, and attorneys representing both sides. A settlement commonly takes the form of negotiation, followed by a written agreement in which both sides forgo any further action (such as a lawsuit), choosing instead to resolve the matter through payment of an agreeable amount of money.
In states that follow contributory fault rules, the plaintiff will be barred from collecting any damages at all if they're found to bear any degree of responsibility for the accident. In comparative negligence states, an injured claimant's damages award will be reduced by a percentage that's equal to  his or her share of  liability -- so, a claimant who bears 25% of the blame in a slip and fall case would only collect $7,500 of a $10,000 damages award, for example. You can find your state’s rules on the issue in this chart.

Personal injury lawyers help injured people seek compensation from those who have harmed them. Some injury attorneys focus on a specific type of case, such as truck accidents, car accidents, slip-and-fall injuries, medical malpractice or products liability cases. If a person is injured as a result of criminal behavior, it may be appropriate to pursue a personal injury lawsuit in addition to the state's criminal investigation or prosecution.
There are many dangerous conditions like torn carpeting, changes in flooring, poor lighting, narrow stairs, or a wet floor can cause someone to slip and be injured. Same goes if someone trips on a broken or cracked public sidewalks, or falls down a flight of stairs. In addition, a slip and fall case might arise when someone slips or falls outdoors because of rain, ice, snow or a hidden hazard, such as a pothole in the ground.
The British road engineer J. J. Leeming, compared the statistics for fatality rates in Great Britain, for transport-related incidents both before and after the introduction of the motor vehicle, for journeys, including those once by water that now are undertaken by motor vehicle:[22] For the period 1863–1870 there were: 470 fatalities per million of population (76 on railways, 143 on roads, 251 on water); for the period 1891–1900 the corresponding figures were: 348 (63, 107, 178); for the period 1931–1938: 403 (22, 311, 70) and for the year 1963: 325 (10, 278, 37).[22] Leeming concluded that the data showed that "travel accidents may even have been more frequent a century ago than they are now, at least for men".[22]

In the early 1970s, British Leyland started an intensive programme of vehicle safety research, producing a number of prototype experimental safety vehicles demonstrating various innovations for occupant and pedestrian protection such as air bags, anti-lock brakes, impact-absorbing side-panels, front and rear head restraints, run-flat tires, smooth and deformable front-ends, impact-absorbing bumpers, and retractable headlamps.[55] Design has also been influenced by government legislation, such as the Euro NCAP impact test.

Research has shown that, across all collision types, it is less likely that seat belts were worn in collisions involving death or serious injury, rather than light injury; wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of death by about 45 percent.[52] Seat belt use is controversial, with notable critics such as Professor John Adams suggesting that their use may lead to a net increase in road casualties due to a phenomenon known as risk compensation.[53] However, actual observation of driver behaviors before and after seat belt laws does not support the risk compensation hypothesis. Several important driving behaviors were observed on the road before and after the belt use law was enforced in Newfoundland, and in Nova Scotia during the same period without a law. Belt use increased from 16 percent to 77 percent in Newfoundland and remained virtually unchanged in Nova Scotia. Four driver behaviors (speed, stopping at intersections when the control light was amber, turning left in front of oncoming traffic, and gaps in following distance) were measured at various sites before and after the law. Changes in these behaviors in Newfoundland were similar to those in Nova Scotia, except that drivers in Newfoundland drove slower on expressways after the law, contrary to the risk compensation theory.[54]

Slip and fall law refers to the liability rules governing cases in which an individual falls to the ground and suffers harm due to a dangerous condition on someone else's property. As a subset of personal injury law, these cases are controlled by the basic rules of negligence. Unless an accident occurs on federal government property, state law will control. Violations of local building code ordinances can also be relevant.

The most important rule about settlements is that, once the plaintiff tells the defense that he or she has accepted the settlement offer, the case is over. In almost every state, this is final. A change of heart about the settlement offer, even five minutes after it’s been accepted, will go nowhere. Just like any other contract, there is almost zero chance of getting the court to reverse a settlement agreement. For this reason, it’s important that the plaintiff carefully consider the terms of a settlement offer – amount of money, payment terms, release of liability, confidentiality terms – before accepting.
Auto accidents happen and often result in injury, pain, lost productivity, and can even cause future pain and problems. In fact, whether you know you are injured or think you’re fine, it’s important to seek qualified, medical care after every automotive accident. Delaying your evaluation and treatment could leave your injury — whether it is known or hidden — to worsen and could result in you losing coverage for your injury by the at-fault party’s auto insurance policy.

When you visit an office building, restaurant, government building, shopping center, hotel, apartment complex, or even take a walk, your experience should be free from hazards.  Businesses and property owners and managers have a duty to you and to the community.  They must be diligent, not negligent, in managing and maintaining their property.  You are their customer or guest and they should make sure that their premises are safe.  If you have been injured in a slip and fall accident caused by poorly maintained property, you deserve compensation for the damages you suffer.
