The filing of the lawsuit starts the clock running on when the case might get to trial. Every state’s pretrial procedures are different, but generally it will take one to two years for a personal injury case to get to trial. Keep in mind that a lawsuit needs to be filed within strict time limits that every state has set by passing a law called a statute of limitations.
If you believe you’re entitled to compensation from the other party for your injuries, your attorney will usually send a demand letter, either to the other person (or their attorney) or to the other person’s insurance company. The letter will give the relevant facts about the accident such as the time and place and cause of the injury, describe your injury, and ask for a specified amount in settlement of the case. A demand letter usually gives the other parties a specified time to respond.
Burn/Fire Injuries Fire and burn injuries are some of the most dangerous and life-altering injuries a person can suffer. Imagine if your life or a loved one’s were irreparably changed for the worse, because of a chemical fire caused by unsafe working conditions or an apartment fire that occurred because of a landlord cutting corners with fire safety?

It may sound silly to say, but the best way to prevent a painful and costly slip and fall accident while you’re out running errands is to watch where you’re going. There are so many things that can distract you: screaming kids, texting your spouse, drinking your Frappuccino, or answering one last email from your boss; do these things while you are stationary and eliminate a large chunk of the risk of slipping and falling.
The global economic cost of MVCs was estimated at $518 billion per year in 2003, and $100 billion in developing countries.[78] The Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimated the U.S. cost in 2000 at $230 billion.[91] A 2010 US report estimated costs of $277 billion, which included lost productivity, medical costs, legal and court costs, emergency service costs (EMS), insurance administration costs, congestion costs, property damage, and workplace losses. "The value of societal harm from motor vehicle crashes, which includes both economic impacts and valuation for lost quality-of-life, was $870.8 billion in 2010. Sixty-eight percent of this value represents lost quality-of-life, while 32 percent are economic impacts."[92]

In some cases, involving a defect in the design or manufacture of motor vehicles, such as where defective design results in SUV rollovers[101] or sudden unintended acceleration,[102] accidents caused by defective tires,[103] or where injuries are caused or worsened as a result of defective airbags,[104] it is possible that the manufacturer will face a class action lawsuit.
At Morgan & Morgan, we have handled many cases like this, investing time and energy on a contingency-fee basis in order to get your family justice. Motorcyclists have little protection other than their clothing and helmets. This difference is reflected in the casualty statistics, where they are more than twice as likely to suffer severely after a collision. In 2005, there were 198,735 road crashes with 271,017 reported casualties on roads in Great Britain. This included 3,201 deaths (1.1%) and 28,954 serious injuries (10.7%) overall. Of these casualties 178,302 (66%) were car users and 24,824 (9%) were motorcyclists, of whom 569 were killed (2.3%) and 5,939 seriously injured (24%).[59]
It’s a well known fact, insurance companies make money – by denying personal injury claims. Their goal is to hinder, limit, and deny, your claim and give you as little money as possible. When you speak to them without an attorney, you have no leverage, and are at a potential disadvantage. Without a proper understanding of the law, you may find it difficult to compel them to play fair. Most victims don’t know the law, and don’t know enough to file a personal injury claim on their own due to a lack of knowledge and/or understanding. Insurance companies know this, and can play games in order to harm your chances of getting compensation. In some cases, victims may not understand the true value of their potential claim – and may settle for less. For example, many clients we’ve spoken to don’t know they can ask for future/past medical bills to be covered — or even future lost wages to be covered as a part of the final settlement/verdict. Our attorneys can help advise you about your right, and tell you what you may be entitled to as a result of your injuries. One of things we do, as a part of your case – is do a full investigation into the case in order to secure necessary evidence that proves your point of view.
There are demographic differences in crash rates. For example, although young people tend to have good reaction times, disproportionately more young male drivers feature in collisions,[20] with researchers observing that many exhibit behaviors and attitudes to risk that can place them in more hazardous situations than other road users.[18] This is reflected by actuaries when they set insurance rates for different age groups, partly based on their age, sex, and choice of vehicle. Older drivers with slower reactions might be expected to be involved in more collisions, but this has not been the case as they tend to drive less and, apparently, more cautiously.[21] Attempts to impose traffic policies can be complicated by local circumstances and driver behavior. In 1969 Leeming warned that there is a balance to be struck when "improving" the safety of a road:[22]
The average annual salary for a personal injury lawyer is $73,000.
